Public policy to help women business owners is on top of the agenda for a new leader of the South Coast chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners.
Alliance Wealth Strategies co-owner Amy Ackerman is the incoming 2016 president of the NAWBO chapter. “I have a passion for public policy,” she said in an interview with SB Business News. “We (NAWBO) have gotten away from it.”
Ackerman said NAWBO’s 2016 agenda will include an April “Speak Out” event probably at Santa Barbara City College to allow women business owners to talk directly to local elected state officials who will not be allow to give speeches. The hope is that the officials will return to Sacramento with direct information on how to aid women business owners.
The April event will be sponsored by the SBCC Foundation.
This year’s local NAWBO board includes some new faces, including Santa Barbara Matchmaking founder Lisa Darsonval-Amador who will work with corporate sponsorships. Amber Wallace of Dowitcher Designs is the 2017 president-elect. The chapter has 87 current members
To align the group’s fiscal structure with the national organization, Ackerman will serve the first half of the year as co-president with Kim Clark, who has been in office since the start of 2015.
